Effect of zinc oxide surface treatment concentration and nanofiller loading on the flexural properties of unsaturated polyester/ kenaf nanocomposites

Due to environmental concerns and budgetary constraints associated with synthetic fibers, nat- ural fibers (NFr) are becoming increasingly popular as reinforcement in polymer composites (PCs) for structural components and construction materials. The surface treatment (ST) method is a well-established technique for enhancing the strength of interfacial bonding between NFr and the polymer matrix (PM). As a result, this research aims to determine the effect of ST with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) on the flexural properties of unsaturated polyester (UPE)/kenaf fiber (KF) nanocomposites. The hand lay-up technique was employed to produce KF-reinforced un- saturated polyester composites (KF/UPE) for this investigation. UPE/KF-ZnONPs composites were made with varying NFr loadings (weight percent), ranging from 10 to 40%. KF was treated with five distinct amounts of ZnONPs (from 1 to 5% weight percent). According to the findings of the investigation, the composite samples incorporating ZnONPs displayed superior optimum flexural properties compared to the untreated KF composite. It was found that 2% ZnONPs was optimal, and ST with ZnONPs could produce robust KF with improved flexural properties. Energy and exergy analysis of a liquid desiccant heat and mass transfer loop with natural convection: The effect of heat sink and heat source temperature

Desiccant systems, as a promising air conditioning technology have opened new aspects as a replacement for vapor compression systems. The liquid desiccant energy exchanger system with natural convection flow is proposed here; the system is a loop with two hollow fiber membrane air-desiccant exchanger of shell-and-tube type that works as the humidifier and regenerator. The LiCl aqueous solution as desiccant directed over the fibers and the air is inside the fibers; the water stream flows outside the modules to provide the required heat exchange. The heat sink and source as merged subparts of the exchangers have a major influence on system performance. The system is examined from the energetic and exergetic viewpoints at different heat sink and heat source temperatures. Keeping the fixed air flow rate and using the standard air properties, the cold and hot water temperatures of 15–25 ◦C and 50–70 were employed and the effectiveness coefficients including the latent, sensible and total and 2nd law efficiency evaluated. It was shown that the values of NTU and Cr* depend on each other and attenuating effect of NTU reduction is higher than enhancing effect of Cr* increase on effectiveness values. The prominent factor on exergy performance which hinders the effect of the other parameters is the solution flow rate. Also, the highest and lowest values of 2 nd law efficiency are 81% and 5% which are for tem- perature pairs of (52, 20) and (65,25), respectively. Robust Liquid Level Control of Quadruple Tank System: A Nonlinear Model-Free Approach

Abstract: In this paper, two new versions of modified active disturbance rejection control (MADRC) are proposed to stabilize a nonlinear quadruple tank system and control the water levels of the lower two tanks in the presence of exogenous disturbances, parameter uncertainties, and parallel varying input set-points. The first proposed scheme is configured from the combination of a modified tracking differentiator (TD), modified super twisting sliding mode (STC-SM), and modified nonlinear extended state observer (NLESO), while the second proposed scheme is obtained by aggregating another modified TD, a modified nonlinear state error feedback (MNLSEF), and a fal-function-based ESO. The MADRC schemes with a nonlinear quadruple tank system are investigated by running simulations in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and several comparison experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes. Furthermore, the genetic algorithm (GA) is used as a tuning algorithm to parametrize the proposed MADRC schemes with the integral time absolute error (ITAE), integral square of the control signal (ISU), and integral absolute of the control signal (IAU) as an output performance index (OPI). Finally, the simulation results show the robustness of the proposed schemes with a noticeable reduction in the OPI.
